Measures about 2.5" x 1.75". Thin stamped brass with a floral design and arches on top and neo classical pillars going across the bottom. Confederate position. Any ideas? DSCN0030.webp

Did all the pieces come from the same hole? To me, the flower design doesn't go with the pillars. I can tell you that there is nothing even remotely similar to it Kerksis" "Plates and Buckles of the American Military 1795-1874".

I have to agree with fyrffytr1, that these pieces look to have come from two separate relics. :icon_scratch:

It may just be my eyes playing tricks on me, but the metal on top looks to be brass and the metal below looks to be copper?
Of course, the verdigris will vary on brass depending on the soil conditions... poor drainage, animal feces/urine and the acidity of the soil itself.

Definitely interesting relics, hope you get some answers to your questions.

Same 6". The reddish pieces were heated and annealed to get them to straighten out some. I also thought two separate items in the same hole. I just don't know. I'm pretty sure it's not a plate.

Guys thanks for looking in that book. That's one I don't have a copy of.

The floral pattern is distinctly feminine IMO. Late Victorian... Possible the remains of makeup pots/compacts?

Maybe even the top to a cane or walking stick. Something I just thought of.

I'll just throw my guess from yesterday on your other thread to see if it stirs up anyone on the What Is It forum.....

The transition from the pillars to the flower pattern just doesn't match. There appears to be part of a border under the middle and end flower piece. Maybe the pillars go on top?
