Baggage Tag, 2 - LC's & an Early Wrist Watch

I headed back to the 1860 farm site for 3hrs this morning and made some decent finds!
I decided to hit the field to the west of the house and within the first 5 minutes I found the baggage tag. The CNR's main rail line between Toronto & Montreal runs directly through this property about 500' from where I found this piece. My next find was the large copper coin, which unfortunately is completely toasted! :p My next find was the pocket / wrist watch. I'm pretty sure this is a wrist watch, but the back comes off just like a pocket watch.
My next find was an unusual center-fire brass shotgun shell. Normally I'd just chuck something like this into my recycling bucket, but this one was thick and had a manufactures stamp on it that I'd never seen before!

Towards the end of my hunt I found the plated brass harness buckle and a 1906 Canadian LC!

Here is some info I found about the the marks stamped into the back of the watch, I couldn't find any info on 'Ideal US'. As well as, some info on the shotgun casing.

‘Ideal US’ Early Wristwatch Ser. 91390 - ‘Silveroid’ Ser. 1026006

I believe ‘Silveroid’ is an alloy of copper and nickel sometimes known as nickel silver or German silver. It's more practical than silver, gold or gold-filled cases and was the best material for cases until the advent of stainless steel. Keystone Watch Case Co's Patent for the Silveroid trademark was filed on Oct 17, 1900 however it is also listed as being in use since Jan. 1, 1886.

Kynock Birmingham No. 12/ Eley London No. 10 Center fire Cap

Kynoch was a manufacturer of ammunition, later incorporated into ICI but remaining as a brand name for sporting cartridges. Scottish entrepreneur George Kynoch established Kynoch in Witton in Birmingham in 1862 when he opened a percussion cap factory in Witton. Kynoch, along with names such as Eley, became brands of subsidiaries.

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

PS. I took the pic of a large deer from the ridge overlooking a field behind the barn.

Check out this link, might help you find out more about your tag?

Thank you very much for the 'Baggage Tag' website link TH, I'll check it out later today!

Best of luck to you,
Dave

I like the Tag - early 1900s?

Thanks Cru, I was thinking along to same timeline as well.
I was hoping that it might be stagecoach related since there is no reference to a railroad line. :icon_scratch:

Cool finds, I'm hoping to get out today, but it's pretty cold here Detroit! I love fin dining the Canadian large cents. I find them every now and then, HH. Detroitdigger.

Thanks for your post DD!
Yeah, it's cold here this morning too 18F!
I'm about to head out to hunt this same field again this morning,
that is until my fingers are too numb to grip the detector. :laughing7:

I love finding early LC's also, what I'd really like is to find an IH one day!
Dave

It good to see that your still digging and getting some pretty nice results. Liking the tag for sure and it's always a good day to walk away with a copper or two under the belt as it's not a easy thing to accomplish from some the homesteads it seems in and around the area. Getting any type of a time piece is neat as it's so personal and something that the person would of coveted as it wasn't easily replaceable.

Thanks very much for your post J! I love the look of this wrist watch too, almost makes me want to go and find one for sale on eBay! :laughing7: We got about 3" of snow last night and the temps are suppose to drop this week, so i think that's about it for the season my friend! :dontknow:

Have a great Christmas J if I don't talk to you before then,
Dave

Congrats on even getting to hunt still, Dave. It's looking not so well here as of now. I hope it warms up enough to thaw the top of the fields. If the end of the hunt year has passed already, so be it. I am content with this year's finds. Good luck on the next one.

I hear you . . . the weathers not looking very promising here for the next few days either. Of course, while I was driving around my 'home turf' today I spotted 2 more farm sites that I would've hit in a second if it wasn't for the cold!

Best of luck to you next year as well,
Dave
