Saw 3 Eagles then 1 flew away. One is different than the typical Bald Eagle.
Not sure if it's molting, old, or an old Golden Eagle.
The Coyotes did a kill last night, and the Eagles are having a great feed this morning.

They probably spent a good hour feeding on the carcass.

A photos are a tad grainy as it's 2450 ft away and was taken from inside the house.

Nice photos. I wonder why the coyotes are not feeding on their kill?
Thanks Newman

They probably had their fill in the cover of darkness. Probably they'll return after dark tonight.
The Max was upset last night a few times, he probably heard the Coyotes.
He caught scent last night going out for a walk. Went totally guard dog, climbed the large snow bank, and barked in that direction.

One is different than the typical Bald Eagle.
Possibly a juvenile? We saw one yesterday that looked a bit strange, but the ranger said that it was just a juvenile, that they don't really get their full distinctive white coloration until they are fully mature adults.

That's probably it then, just a juvenile. The adult put it in its place a few times.

Yes, Juvenile Bald Eagle.
Thank you for the clear definition on what the difference is between the growth stages.

I was entertaining a hike over to the point in the early morning, but slogging through the foot+ of snow has its limits.

Nice pics at nearly half a mile ! What is the bluish green thing ?
Thanks.
When we got up we thought it was a ice fisherman.
(Kind of a morbid thought)
The binoculars still wasn't clear.
But with the zoom fully out I figured it might of been a Ballon.
It's gone now so the guys fishing today might of picked it up.

Yotes tear open the abdomen and go for the heart, liver and lungs. If it has been a long time since a meal then will go for the flanks. Internals are more protein, vitamins.
These were from 3 yrs ago. Dead racoon
I couldn't believe it swallowed it in 1 gulp.

They are such MAJESTIC birds

Like the pics. Bald eagles are big time scavengers, easier than hunting. Bald eagles are basically water birds, and golden eagles are prairie birds. They typical feathers you see in NDN headdresses are from the golden eagle. In Oklahoma, people were patting themselves on the back for restoring the environment and the bald eagles returned. Actually they had altered the natural environment by building all the lakes. Bald eagles were never very much interested in that area due to lack of water. Golden eagles were more prevalent. In movies, when they show that bald eagle, they usually use that redtail hawk whistle. Eagles make more of a kind of chittering sound. Bout all I know about them, and pretty cool to see in the wild like this pic I got.

That's true about the red tail screech on TV . ! Easy to get confused as here in my area the blue Jay's make the redtail screech and wife says there's an eagle....

There's a pair of Red tailed hawks that frequent my bush, and nestled across the on the hill of the bay.
Very distinctive screeching, I often see them in the field, on the garden fence posts hunting.

Here in Florida along the Indian River I've seen Bald Eagles soaring above the water. If a poor Osprey snatches a fish, the eagle will dive on it and the Osprey will drop the fish. The eagle snatches the mullet before it hits the water. Smart, but also bullies.

Bald eagles probably eat more dead animals then they kill But that.s how nature works Each critter in the wild is best suited to do what' they are good at Nature struggles when that balance is lost due to the many factors that effect that balance So even though eagles are often scavenger's they are still awesome looking animas And even though they sometimes kill more desirable critters they are an important part of nature

Ospreys are no joke and can get that fish back from the eagle.

When I was in FL near Clearwater I saw more ospreys than I could count. Nests everywhere on power poles. I’ve seen them at the lake here in Central Illinois but they are not common.
