The beach in between is Kure Beach, gravedigger. Have been there many times. Just started detecting and plan to detect there this summer during vacation. Taking my Ace 250 along for the ride.

kure, jake that is it ......................i wanted to stop and hunt there for a while, but did not

i talked to a policeman in carolina beach and he told me about some nice wrecks on the beach at kure.

he also told me about hunting the river on the other side..............said much civil war action there

if my group goes to baldhead this year, i may if these two spots a shot

thanks for the reply
max

researching something or the other on the civil war i came across some info regarding one end of oak island nc,,,,large encampment, or pirate village or something, pretty much covered a large area at north or south end of the island,........you might check into the local history there because ever what it was i came across was large and old and would be worth checking into.......gldhntr

Not trying to rain on anyones parade here. But,metal detecting at FortFisher is strictly forbidden. The town of Fort Fisher is concidered a Fed archeological site.Check the town site for regulations. Also on the river side of the island, from Dow rd. to the river is now Federally owned and heavily posted. It used to be a hot spot, but now can get you a ride in the GoldStar taxi to the big White Fed building in Wilmington. But on the Bright side,Carolina,Kure,Wilmington,Wrightsville,Surfcity,Topsail,Holden,
Sunset, and Oak Island beaches are OK.There are Wrecks scattered all along the coast and CapeFear river. There is also Figure8 island and Baldhead Island, neither very good hunts.I guess if you are visiting and get busted, you could plea ignorance.I live here and will not take the chance.Although some days 3 hots and a cot may not be a bad thing.

u are mistaken about fort fisher-----------meaning the atlantic coast beach. i went into the main building and was told it can be hunted after labor day-----------i hunted it 3 days in 2005 sept.------------this is ocean side, u can not hunt on the left side going to carolina beach, just the ocean side

u can call them and verify this if u so desire

Max,I guess it's all in who you ask.I live here and have ask and have been told and shown in writing at town hall, metal detecting in the town of Fort Fisher is strictly forbidden.I guess if you are on the beach past the high tide line there may be some sort of loop hole.
They even made a big deal of it in the paper, where one guy had to jump through all kind of hoops just to look for his wifes ring.He had to also be escorted and turn over anything he found that was not the descibed ring. When you say the little building are you speaking of townhall or the museum?I think I'd get it in writeing from someone who is someone before I'd take the chance. It's not really a hot spot anyway compared to the other area beaches. The best finds and views are at Wrightsville.Check it out the next time you are down this way.Get up with me and I'll show you where to go!I can be found at Detectorx most often.

the big building just up the steps from this sign

went inside and talked to two rangers.............beach is open after labor day............

not the museum

the beach parking lot just north of the museum on right side going towards carolina beach

LIKE U SAID..................NOT VERY PRODUCTIVE............carolina and north...........more bodies

I WOULD NOT GO BACK

i don't know how it is now but in 87-88 a buddy of mine and two associates were arrested detecting around ft fisher, their detectors confiscated, and heavily fined....might have been because it was dark outside but all the same, i would definantly make sure that you are in the right before attempting.....these fellows also had found several nice relics, includind revolver remains, a 1/2 of a sword, couple long gun barrels, and lot of smalls....may be why they were arrested, the rangers wanted the relics......the site i mentioned above was not on the beach at oak island, but a little inland....i will look back over my research to see if i can find the info and post it........gldhntr

the left side of the road heading north is relic glory i was told on the .....................just across the street from the beach and all along the river.............national park tooooooooooo - that is probably where they were.

Gldhnter. That story is the standard down there. They were lucky to only get fines and loss of detectors. Many got 3 hots and a cot for a while on top of that.It has only gotten worse since back then. The Feds have bought up all the land left on the island. So whats not state park is Federal. They are not a group to play games with.It is a relic hot spot with much history but they want to leave it where it is.As far as coins and jewelry goes, there isnt much anyway, not many people even go to that beach. Now if you go a couple miles North, the beaches are already packed.Much more relaxed to hunt and see the views.

Max,check Detectorx under the club section for a good view of this weekend at OakIsland.
