My friend found this today. Its very large for a bale seal but I guess they made them this large. It was bigger than a quarter. Any ideas about the symbol?

Please ignore the KG1. Cant figure out how to remove that picture.

Hi Crusader,
I don't know much about bale / bag seals. Are they one and the same? I ask because here in the States we often find layered lead disks that have writing / symbols on them and they are always referred to as "bale seals". Normally they are the size of an American dime, but this one is almost the size of an American half dollar. There are no holes in it but its clearly two pieces of lead sandwiched together. There doesn't appear to be writing / symbols on the reverse.

The symbol on the front is curious me as it could be 4 connected crosses of a Maltese type with a fifth cross in the middle. I'm wondering if these could be Spanish.

Ill post pictures of the side and reverse when I get them from my friend.

yes, one of the same. To be a seal it needs holes for the wire.

You guys are amazing. Thank you! Its seems my friend is the fourth or so to find one. We found it on the east end /north shore of Long Island on a field that was a farm in the 1800's. We also found a few old artifacts of sorts somy guess this is around that age.
