After Sunday's epic hunt at the old ball field, with 18 silver coins, I decided to take the afternoon off from work and try again for a few hours. I concentrated on 2 areas that I had not hit very hard in the previous 3 visits, going very slow and digging everything that was below 2-3 inches. After not having found any Barber dimes at the site, was able to dig up 3 of them today, all in the same area near the first base line of the main field. The Merc was also found close by. Towards the end of the hunt decided to try the football field, was finding a lot of deep clad before getting a very week 38 on the Safari. At about 10 inches down, was getting a weak signal on the pinpointer. Used a shovel to dig out 2-3 inches of soil, no more signal from the pinpointer in the hole, but the Safari was screaming 38 when swung over the shoveled dirt, which turned out to be a worn 1894-O Barber Quarter. Plenty more area to hunt around the football field this weekend.
In 4 hunts this site has yielded 41 silver coins. Also found 5 Indian Heads today. I am so loving this place it is hard not to take the rest of the week off from work and hunt it hard every day. I hope everyone gets to experience what appears to be a virgin site like this.
