Are you sure it's a bar shot? I don't recall any with a hexagonal bar.

From Artillery Through The Ages (1949) - a very useful little reference:

Slightly OT - Note the difference between grape shot (iron) and canister (case) (lead). Generally, ships used grape and land artillery used cannister, despite the famous phrase "a whiff of grape."

ID to the Revolution war bought for $5 sold for $1000

Where did you go to ID it? Just curious because I don't recall ever seeing one with an octagonal bar,

Founded a collector sent him pictures he had some like it from New York this one was from Savannah he must have been sure he the one that paid the $1000
