I would have just grabbed the wood paddle and flipped it over. Wouldn't need to touch the bowl.

Unless she was Thinking he would Fall for the Old Trick & Say she Removed the Money without Touching it. Causing Him to Lift so She Can Snatch hers, His or Their Money for the Trick .

Add to That it was Most Likely Husband and Wife

It Was What it Was ! Either a Trick He wanted to show Her

or A way To lift The Lid Without touching it or Both

He was holding stuff that was touching stuff that was connected to the bowl. He could have hit it with a baseball bat and still been all good. What are the rules to this thing?

Simple you Can't touch the bowl

Was a Glass Table. Though Roberts way Could Work, You'd Need to Quickly Slam it Over . I Don't Know the Complete Rules But moving the Paddle was most likely Not allowed

Of Course The paddle would be Needed for the Other Trick .
But would Take a Fool Or Kid as the Mark

Just say you Magically Took The Money & The Idiot lifts tthe Bowl So you can Snatch it.
