Barrel Band for Civil War Rifle??...Help Identify

I tried this in the "What is it" forum, thought I'd try here as well since it is still not identified.

I was in Virginia hunting near the the path that General Lee took out of Richmond in April 1865. Found some artifacts (bullets, buttons, etc.) that were great finds. Also found this item that looks like it might be a barrel band, but I have not been able to identify it. Can anyone help and point me in the right direction?

I have seen that somewhere...............Just can't renenber where! But I don't think it's a barrel band.....jmho......................HH
 
Looks like a barrel band to me. The bottom slot would be for the sling.
 
What type of metal is it? It really looks like a barrel band

Did you ever I'd this piece? I found one Fri while river hunting a CW site. I too am thinking barrel band. Just wondering? Thanks.

I agree 100% with sorahc. Barrel band with part at bottom for sling.
 
With that seam from being molded showing in the middle pic it's my guess that it's from a toy gun. A real one would have been better finished than that in most cases. Can you tell what type of metal it's made of ? Has the look of pot metal to me which would also indicate it's from a modern toy.
