Barrel Tap?

This was found in Gloucester, VA in a construction site. This was the only thing found there unfortunately. It is heavy brass or copper.

What does the hole in each end look like ? It looks a lot like an old cutting torch tip.

The larger end is clearly broken from something, uneven edge, jagged. The smaller end looks a bit more symmetrical, but still perhaps broken or unfinished. I can take pictures tonight.

i'm thinking it might be from a tap also but the tap i'm guessing is one they put in trees.(maple) to get the sap for syrup..just a guess
