It's an electrical fuse and they still make them today. You can see them at any hardware store.

No, it's not old. It says Fusetron FRN-R 30

Hey ShiningStar - You're in some pretty good hunting territory for old stuff. Our son and his family live there (Navy sub duty) and we've visited. Love the area and the history! You should be able to get back into the 1700s if you find the right coin field. Good luck!
