After two years of trying to buy or trade for this bayonet, out of the blue he just gave it to me. So I'm stoked and glad to add it to my collection.

Now the question is; Is it real, or is it a reproduction?
It has some surface rust so I rubbed it down with WD40 in case you were curious about the wet shiny look.

Good news. I just took it to the Pea Ridge National Military Park and showed it to their "Chief of Interpretation". He said it is definitely a real bayonet from either an 1855 or 1861 Springfield.

VERY NICE ACQUISITION Ice!

Very Nice Bayonet. Congratulations to you on a great piece of CW History. This will be a great addition to display.

That's is freaking cool glad you got it awesome

That is really nice. Do you know the back story on this bayonet? Was it something he found at some sale or family heirloom?

My brother got in one of those free ads on craigslist where you must take everything or nothing. It was a whole pickup load of mostly junk but there was a nice fraternal sword, I think a French bayonet sword, this civil war bayonet and some other goodies in the mix. He said the guy inherited it with a bunch of other stuff when his grandfather died but that he didn't have room in his apartment to keep everything.

Yep, that’s the real deal, nice job!!

Cool piece of history and what a way for your brother to acquire it ... guess you never know what people are getting rid of
