Today I was reminded how dangerous our hobby can actually be. I returned to the old bottle dump on the river where I found the Indian Head Penny to do some more detecting. I got a great signal, dug it, reached in to remove a rock. It was sorta stuck so I tugged on it to remove it. My hand slipped off and run across a piece of an old broken bottle that I didn't notice.

I felt my finger go numb as soon as it happened, so I knew the cut was deep. I looked down and seen that it had cut through my leather glove and knew it wasn't going to be pretty. Long story short, I went to urgent care and the doctor was able to glue it together, so no stitches which is a good thing. But, this just goes to show, you can't be too careful out there folks. Everyone, be careful out there.

Ahh man! That sucks bud, I bet on top of the injury you're upset about being sidelined from digging for a bit.

Speedy recovery to you sir!

Thank you. Yes being sidelined is going to suck, but, I do get light duty at the day job so that makes it a little better LOLOL.

that's one long index finger!

I once dug a hypodermic needle.....I hear ya on the 'be careful' part

Get well soon

Oh man!! A needle? Forget that. You take someone like me who is a severe hypochondriac coupled with panic attacks and anxiety , that is the last thing I would want to get stuck with.

I dug a razor sharp broad head. Also 4 ancient hypodermic needles. Really got to be careful shoving out hands in holes

Wow the ending of your last reply abe.......
lmao!!

I watched a video last year, I think it was, where a couple were bottle hunting and finding broken ones in their garden. Neither were wearing gloves and running their fingers along the pieces they'd dig. I cringed every new find they made. Gloves are the cheapest tool we use and there really is no excuse to not have them on.

I make my wife search the holes

True, be safe and watchful for needles.
Just This Year, I started noticing needles around NF american and american above oxbow res..
Be watchful, attent and use what has been given to you..

Ouch yes be careful.

And that was through the glove. Even gloves don't always help I guess.

Yeah it has happened to me as well. Glad to hear your OK. I was with my 5 yr old boy at the time and the same exact thing happened to me. Blood just everywhere. I didn't wanna panick and scare my boy so I wrapped it quickly drove home. Then my wife forced me to go to the hospital.

I take extra caution now

When I was really young I fell on a jar and almost cut my thumb off in the middle of my palm. I ended up having extensive surgery to repair all the damage. I almost bled to death before I was able to get help. To this day, I will not carry jars and I cringe when I see people drinking out of mason jars. I also cannot feel in my thumb. Kind of cool, because I can burn it or smash it and it barely hurts.
