A good friend of mine here in Kentucky took me to one of his spots this Saturday. It was a Union Camp next to a firing range.

We hunted the camp and found a few dropped minis, then he took me to the hillside that was used as a backdrop for the rifle range. My buddy had found nothing but fired bullets on that hill....that was until I found this Eagle Breast Plate when I thought I was digging a fired mini ball.....ROOKIE MISTAKE!

I put the shovel right through that plate....Lesson Learned!

Here is my take for the day.

This will happen to anyone who hunts relics or coins no matter how careful you are. Relics slide back down in the hole on you, coins are in the sides of the holes and are damaged when you take a slice off to enlarge the hole, and numerous other situations occur. Damaging good buttons makes me SICK. It's much worse in dry, hard ground. Better luck next time and HH, Quindy.

Sorry about the damage :'( still a good find.

Thank you all for the nice comments! This was my 107th plate that I have dug, and the ONLY one out of all of those that I have hit with a shovel.

I'm glad I didn't hit these beauties!
