Hi All,

Just a quick question...are most of the good finds at the shore found in the water, or on the dry part of the beach? I have a Whites XLT which I have used on the dry parts only, with little luck beyond clad coins. I'd consider buying a detector that can go in the water. I plan to go the beach only several times a year, after very big storms hoping to find some good treasure. I watched some youtube videos, and it seems people go in up to waist deep and find things, but I guess that is only done at low tide? What about where the sand usually drops like 4 feet, is that where the good stuff hits into and gets buried? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Hudson,

I'm by no means considered an expert beach hunter, but, I do know a thing or two  A person can & should expect to find goodies both in the dry sand and the wet sand alike, HOWEVER, imho, MOST of the better finds (gold jewelry, older coins, etc.) are found in the wet sand...by far.

Visit any major beach during low tide and you'll surely see AT LEAST a few hunters out there. Chances are MOST of them will be hitting the water line somewhere. Hmmmmmmmmm :laughing7:

Again, treasure can be found anywhere on a beach. One of the best places to search is in or around the entrances & exits as well as near the parking areas. However, just like other games of chance, this hobby is all about the law of averages. And the averages & odds are MUCH more likely that you'll find the better stuff in the wet sand or in the water :icon_sunny:
