Hello all, thanks for your replies! I keep everything, but on my last holiday at the beach in, with the money I've detected over the past few months, I bought myself a new snorkle and mask, ($70.00) a dive knife ($62.00)and wet suit shoes ($46.00) to go under my flippers. So the detector pays for a few luxuries! I keep most of the rings, but sometimes sell a bit of silver to a guy I know who owns and antique and book shop!

Hello Waco Kid, Australia stopped making silver coins around 1966, when the round 50 cent piece had a % of silver content, and the currency changed from pre-decimal to decimal. Prior to 1945 silver coins were about 90% silver content, after that date, the content dropped to 50%. Most of our silver looking coins contain a mixtur of zinc, nickle and copper.
