I got back out for a couple hours this morning to the "beat site" and managed a few more finds. Got a few unidentifiables, a musketball, a couple buttons, a heavily corroded Vicky large cent, a 1941 silver dime and an 1891 US V nickel...horrible condition but the first one I have found. Could have just as easily have been a silver so I may be back to that site. Any idea how to clean this nickel or is it as good as it's going to get?

There always seems to be a few more items hiding in our beat to death sites. I know it's not what you're used to digging from your sites. I'm usually seeing much older items from you.

On your V Nickel....I clean mine with a little distilled white vinegar and salt. Dissolve a teaspoon or so of salt in a small glass cup with white vinegar. Place your nickel in for 30-60 minutes. After this, take nickel out of solution and rub a little moistened baking soda on it using your thumb and index finger of both hands. Repeat process again if necessary. Check one of my nickels out that I did this way...big improvement.

Congrats!

I have only tried it on nickels. I have other better methods for silver and copper.

Yep...I'll take it anyway I can...a rare find for my neck of the woods.

Here's a before and after of the V nickel...thanks Captn! There wasn't really much to work with but I think it is much more presentable...

Thanks Taz but I know exactly what it is...I have found hundreds of these Canadian LCs. This one is Vicky but the date side is too worn to get a date. I found an 1859 Canada LC last week...

OK cool thought maybe that was what you were asking about with the Unidentified comment. Still a nice find for sure

The coins I know...there were a few trinkets I picked up that I am not too sure. Thanks for commenting though!
