I had a good hunt Saturday at a early 19th century plantation site. I found a beautiful 1814 classic head large cent! I also found a nice variety of other coins & relics (and a ton of trash). The weather couldn't have been better either, mid 60s! (yes, the nickels are cleaned, the landowner got a hold of them & the large cent when I wasn't looking! The large cent turned out nice though!) Thanks for looking & HH! lc_f.webplc_back.webp1814.webpcoings.webpdand.webpcrapola.webp

Nice dig, great presentation, glad to hear you recovered your recoveries. :occasion14:

It is so difficult in my experience to find a classic head in good condition. The reason is that series was struck on planchets with many impurities, and it was very soft. I actually found one today and can't get a date. I barely got an ID.

Anywho, great find and I'm happy to see the ground was kind to yours.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Thus is my first classic head & definitely the best condition large cent I've found.

Congratz! That looks like a very fun hunt with some awesome finds!

I find way more draped bust LC's than classic heads. Nice find and great detail.

Very nice ! I can appreciate a well struck Classic Head. They are hard to find!

Congrats Josh. That's a sweet coin.

I heard the story last night at the meeting... sorry man...

That is a very nice 1814 Large Cent.

I love your LC, by the sounds of Tom are you missing it. I had a great permission one time where the house was a very predominate family in my area. I'm sure no one was ever allowed to hunt there before. When I got permission the new/newly owner said he wanted to see everything I found. My second target of the day was ringing hells bells eight inches down 85 all four ways with my AT Pro I dug and pulled ten inches deep a copper 1752 King George (I think that was the date) that looked like it was brand new dropped the day before, right out of the hole I could see the date! After that I found two LC s that one was the same way. When I showed the owner he snatched them right out of my hand and said, "I'm going to have to keep these" I could not believe what had happened. This guy is a doctor, very well to do, I could not believe he did that. If he had asked me, could I please have those, I would have felt differently about it. As it was I felt I got robbed?

I had already discussed that I would make her a display case & we would split things fairly since she was interested in the history of the site as well. She tried to take basically everything when I left. I got to keep it to bring to the club meeting but will bring it back later. I then asked if I found another if I could keep it. She responded well, we will see. She already has a LC she found on the ground in the yard. That struck me as incredibly selfish & rude. I'm not in this hobby to do free charity work but I'm happy to share. Although, she did give me permission to come back whenever I want even if she is not there. I'll just leave it at that... I strive to be fair & honest but it must go both ways...

Congrats on some nice finds. It sounds like a great site to have permission to hunt so you are probably best off just to satisfy the homeowner's demands. Although she doesn't have to know everything that you find, right? Especially since your original agreement was to split anything you found fairly. Her idea of fair seems to be to keep it all?

That's true.... At least I wasn't being followed around! I haven't even scratched the surface. I find it's easier to get permission when you offer to share, I've never really had this issue but one other time (the site wasn't great so I just gave them their display & never went back).

Mangrum that coin made my heart go all a flutter. I'm glad you have permission to go back to that site unfettered with the missus having to be there.
