I had a great day yesterday & saved an amazing piece of history! There was a story that Civil War soldiers stopped by the homesite I was at to use the well. Well, I think I proved that they were there! There was a camp less than a mile from this place. This is a model 1851 Civil War union sword belt plate! This would’ve been used by officers or cavalry. It was definitely a thrill seeing that pop out! I also found a cool 1940s toy fire truck & an unknown item (maybe piece of a sword scabbard). We drove 3 hours & were only able to hunt 2 because of the rain but boy was it worth it! Three awesome finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Nice plate find. Congrats. I like the old fire truck too.

I need that lol That is fantastic!

I can’t even imagine what it must of been like to pull that buckle out of the ground and give it life again. I would be on top of the world and that fire truck is the cherry on top. Congratulations my friend well done.

Awesome save!!! Did you find it with the AT Pro? If so, how deep was the plate and what did it sound like? VDI?? I have always wondered what one might sound like. I would appreciate the info just in case :dontknow:

I found it with the T2, rang up a 92 (silver range) Vienna sausage cans sound similar lol. AT Pro it’d be upper 80s or higher

Mighty fine plate! Congrats.

Wow that is a really nice plate! And that truck is way cool too! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! My favorite thing to find. I about had a heart attack with the first one I found. I’m overdue, I gotta go find another one now. You pump me up!

Thats a beauty of a belt plate. What a great find. Like the toy truck also. Looks like it could be a Tootsie Toy. It should be marked underneath.

It’s not a tootsie, it’s marked Manoil

Very nice! That is on my list too...

Awesome plate!!! I have not found one yet, but I continue to try. I would fall over if I pulled that out of the ground. Congratulations!

Great condition on that plate. I would love to see that truck restored that's cool too. good post

Nice buckle!!! The flat thing might be the throat to an Enfield bayonet scabbard, but who knows

How did soldiers just lose those plates? They had to be pretty sturdy, I presume. Are most that are found from fallen soldiers I wonder?

A lot of time they would shed entire uniforms due to “ crotch crickets” lice, and burn them
