Had a great time gridding a farm field near Kingston, NY, with my buddy Frank (Fmerg). While I didn't get skunked, I came pretty close. I got a strong hit at about 8" deep, and dug up a really toasted "V" nickel. Frank found the date, 1854. He then proceeded to find himself a nice piece of GOLD! :tongue3:

Rich, (Port ewen ace) came by as I was getting ready to pack it in for the day, and showed me some of his incredible finds from the fields we were hunting. Always nice to see these guys, and I always learn something from them! :skullflag:

Hey Terry. That's a great looking coin. The date is a little tough to see from that picture. Maybe you can post a better one after it's cleaned up a bit more. I just registered so I'm looking forward to seeing your newest finds. Hopefully I will have some new ones to post also, in the future. I'm in a little dry period as of late. We need a couple of nice storms to stir things up a bit.

Welcome to the forum Joe! :icon_thumright:

Terry, any day you get a chance to hunt with fellow Tnet members, is a great day in my book. :notworthy: Congrats on pulling that keeper, it's icing on the cake.:icon_thumright:

Nice field find.

I wanted to see the gold!

Frank thinks it was part of a cufflink. :skullflag:

I can see it being a cuff link... All I found this morning were pull tabs and bottlecaps... nothing great and no clad...

now i think it was a tie tack

Nickels didn't start until 1866 in the shield variety. You might have to do a bit of cleaning to determine it's true date.
