so far i've made a pendulum (nothing fancy just a nut and a piece of fishing line). i get a counter clock wise motion when i believe i am near a water source. i'm getting a left to right/forward backwards motion when i place it near where i believe there might be an old mine site. just wondering if these motions are different for everybody or are there more common motions related to certain objects/minerals?

The pendulum will react the way you have programmed it....Try this web site for instructions
Map dowsing.
Another interesting experiment. A metallic pendulum attached by a wire will take on the charge of the hand it is being held by. A pendulum held by a nonconductive string will take on the charge of the last hand which held the pendulum. The pendulum when rotating above an object of a similar charge will continue to rotate and eventually swing back and forth perpendicular to the object. This pendulum when rotating above an object of the opposite charge will start to swing back and forth parallel to the object being dowsed. Caution here when dowsing an object you have touched the object will usually take on the charge of the last hand that touched it. This can be demonstrated by dowsing over an object such as a table knife depending on which hand touched the knife last an opposite reaction of the dowsing device will be seen.

thanks art. that is some very helpful and interesting info.

When I was first trying to learn map dowsing I was using paper maps and having a lot of problems...As I learned I got better....Art

yeah its all very new to me. trying to figure it all out. its kinda like learning to operate a machine on the fly. so far i've managed to get a yes,no, and uncertain response. i've quatered up the map and have had a hit at roughly the same spot as the others have had on the map i asked to be dowsed for a cache. its all very interesting.

Hey Hall.....that’s the way it works...I have worked with all the other map dowsers on this board..We all use different methods...It is just finding a method that works for you..No right or wrong....When you do a personal map and find what you have marked the thrill or enjoyment is your reward for all the hard work...Art

yeah its a pretty cool feeling indeed. i'm a little more freestyle right now but that could change as i go.

You have to do it you way...I am sure you will make many changes as you learn....Remember ....As long as you are happy that is what counts...Art

just wondering Art, do you just use a screen shot when you are dowsing or do you print it?

I used to print a lot of maps but after investing hundreds in ink I put a map on my computer screen and ask the question ( Can I dowse this map on the computer screen) and the answer was yes..I did a bunch of personal maps and checked the sites out..the objects were there so I do all of them on the computer screen, I use a program named Microsoft digital Pro 9

ok thanks. seems to be a better option than using all that ink.

The Picture it programs can be run on windows 7...
Use the following steps:
1) Right click on the Program
2) Click on Properties
3) Click on Compatibility tab
4) Select Run this program in compatibility mode and select Windows XP, Windows Vista or whatever operating system the program was running successfully.
Refer to the link here: Make older programs run in this version of Windows

cool thanks art

so i've just be trying running the pendulum over the map to obtain hits and it seems to be working. i get a circle motion for the most part but when i get to a certain area i get a back and forth motion. anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening?

I ask the pendulum questions when map dowsing that can be answered yes or no. I have the pendulum search as I move it over the map or aerial pic and continually concentrate on gold and silver coins. the search is usually a front to back swinging movement of the pendulum then starts turning clockwise for a yes when it detects a target. Then I ask if there are silver coins at this target. I also ask if there are gold coins. I will ask if there is more than one coin if yes, I ask if there are more than 5 and work up in increments of 5 or 10 until I get a no. Then I work down in increments of one until I identify the exact number. Then I ask yes/no questions to ID type of container if there is one, depth, etc. For me counterclockwise is no. Left to right swinging is maybe. Sometime I ask the pendulum to point to the next target by swinging in the appropriate direction and move it that direction until I get a yes to indicate exact location. My pendulums are usually something pointed on a string or chain. One is a cotter pin on a string, another is a light pull chain with ornament, another is a gun sling swivel pin on a string. I also use L rods but mostly in the field as it is more difficult to map dowse with them. I print out the pic or map and mark it then take it to the site and use a metal detector over spot on ground that matches the place marked on map.

I got tired of digging aluminum cans when my detector gave a good signal. I programmed the L rods to point in opposite directions when a can was identified. I set cans out in driveway and tested to see if it did so consistently and it did. Now when my detector gives a good hit, I use the rods to see if it is a can, and don't dig the target if it is.

What ever works is the way it is done....I ask questions of the entire map....I then divide the map in fourths and ask the same questions....I then divide the fourths with yes answers again...A process of eliminations....Art

Art, you have given good advice in the past and I am always open to new information so feel free to teach those of us who are not as experienced at dowsing.

I started using my ipad. With google earth I zero in on the area I want to dowse and take a photo of the aerial view. Then I open the photo editing program and use the editing program to mark the targets as I dowse the picture. Finally, I save the picture with marked targets and use the ipad to reference the photos when metal detecting the site.

I read all the posts…I try a lot of what I am told…..If I think it is working I use it….If not I file the idea as some day it may be the solution to a problem…Art
