I have been contemplating all winter about getting a metal detector and giving this a try. So this week I bought my first one, a Garrett Ace 250. It seemed like a reasonably priced, decent unit for a newbie. To try it out, I chose a friends yard. First time out and I found 18 various coins. While none are real old, I was excited to learn that at least it was working and I was doing something right.
On my second day out I went to a spot near the Swatara Creek near Hummelstown PA, near where some old houses were recently torn down. After about two hours and alot of scrap aluminum siding, I hit on this 1950's era Benrus watch. It's 10k gold plated with diamonds and ruby's on the face. While it may not be worth a fortune, it was fun to find!
