I especially like these stories when the finder is a humble poor farmer. Now that's a feel good story.
 
Well.........?????? Did anyone really read this article ? The Article was published on April 22nd 1879. It stated that gold coins as far back as the 1880 were found.
How the hell can you find coins in a chest prior to them even being minted ? Huh ?

Newspapers would pass this sort of thing on across the country.

There really wasn't a local news section - everyone knew all of that anyway; it's the far away stuff that they didn't know that made the papers.
