Belt Plate

Found this belt plate a few weeks ago. Just wondering if it was a good enough find for the best finds of the year in the magazine. If so how do u find a relic expert to authenticate it . I was told in was militia circa 1810 on the Canadian metal detecting forum. It was found near old Fort Erie in the Niagara peninsula.

Richard, I looked your belt plate up in American Military Insignia 1800-1851 by Campbell and Howell and it looks identical to the one on page 36 which is listed at Shoulder-Belt Plate, 1814. There sample was found at Sackets Harbor, New York. Hope this helps, It would go nicely with the shako plume holder I found, see it under what is it category. It also came from an area of around 1814, but I can not confirm the age...Lance
