Best axe head EVER

Ok, the head itself was nothing special, it's the story behind it that made my day. I met up with a friend and we stopped and got permission at an old farmhouse. The elderly gentleman was excited to see what we might find and told me that his father had lost an axe head a long time ago and he had always wanted to find it but was never able to. I asked him to show me the spot and off we went. He showed me where his father had been cutting but it was quite grown up and neither of us had much confidence that I would find it. Well, 5 minutes later I got a signal and sure enough about 8" down was his father's axe head! Now here is where the story got interesting. I have drove by this property for years and kept saying to myself that I should stop but never did until today. As I handed the man his axe head he smiled and told me that his father had passed away on October 14th 2007, exactly 5 years ago from today. What are the chances that I would stop today on the 5 year anniversary of his fathers death and find the axe head his father lost so many years ago!

Yes, he was nearly in tears as well as amazed that I had actually found it. Seemed strange "just" being an axe head, but the sentimental value as well as the significance of being the anniversary of his father's death were a little overwhelming.

Believe it or not , people were sentimentle with their axes back in the day. They spent alot of time and sweat with them , so they became very personal. Axes were very appreciated generation hand-me downs so to speak. Your find was probably worth more then anything you would have gained for yourself, just the joy on his face is all anyone would really need. Congrats and a thank you from us all.

I didn't keep it. I found it for him and immediately gave it to him.

You probably made that guys day! Great job and I bet you made a new lead there too. Ask him about old hang outs and all that stuff. Pick his brain for swimmin holes (not just beaches) hang outs all that stuff.
