There aren't a lot of good choices at that price range. one exception is the TESORO Silver Umax at $299.00 i am on my ipad so i can't enclose the link or the field tests.

Lots of folks love the F2 and can be had I believe with multiple coils in your price range.
Since you are not a newbie you may want to look into used, so many people buy and after a couple of months give up and sell.

Another 60 or 70 bucks over your max will get you into the Coinmaster GT which I am very happy with.

For your price range the Fisher F2 as mentioned comes with 3 coils ( 4" 8" 10" ) and can be had for around $275

The Garrett ACE 350 you can get for around $297

These would be the 2 I would recommend and I would lean more towards the ACE 350

How about a used higher end detector? Check our sponsors here and the classifieds here on Tnet. Also Craig's list and E-bay are good sources for used machines.

CUDA is spot on, you will get a lot more bang for your buck by buying a used detector from member here plus the depreciation has already happen....

From what I have read, the Fisher F2 and Tesaro's seem like the best ones around $200-$300. It seems people like them more than the Garrett ace 250 when they compare them (and those are the big ones people compare). The tesaro's have a lifetime warranty and the supposedly the best customer service which I think is a huge advantage. I think any of the $200-$300 models probably perform nearly the same though so you are not going to go wrong by going whites, fisher, garrett, tesaro, bounty hunter, etc. If I were you I would get a used as others mentioned - like a Garrett AT Pro that will be awesome on land and in fresh water as its water proof...considering you destroyed your last one in water.

Two BEST choices <$300…Fishers F2 and Teknetics EuroTek Pro. The Tesoro Siver uMax is a fine machine too, if you can put up with single tone and constantly thumbing disc.

What Treasure hunter says. Second hand does not mean second rate and at the price a better deal than going to Lowes, Radio Smack or anyone else. ;)

Hey now the Microntia detectors were nice.... *frowns* Loved the analogue needle and the audio squeal..... lots of pennies found ;)

Under $300.00 you are getting into children's toys sorry to say

Save for a bit, and wait til you can afford another 100 bucks.

Then buy either a used Fisher F70, or a used Garrett AT Pro.

If you like super deep performance and can tolerate a chatty machine, buy the F70.

If you want reasonable depth with simplicity and reliability, buy the AT Pro.

You'll be very glad you did.

I'm sorry, but that statement is complete junk.

I agree with Fella, the Teknetics Eurotek Pro would probably be the best choice in that price range. However, if you plan to do saltwater beach hunting it would be best if you save up a couple hundred extra bucks for a water machine.

I like my Ace 250 and it has found more gold than my AT Gold! so far

Have only been out a few times with the AT Gold lots to learn with that machine teaching it to behave in salt water took a couple hours but works great now!

maybe you should save a few more $ and get a water proof MD so you can take it swimming?
