Hey guys, I've been just watching for awhile now. I work at a big Pentagon shaped government building and we have two banks. Some other CRH is skunking me on the halves but I've found some notes that I've sold on eBay. This forum is awesome and thank you all.

I'm also a MDer; going this weekend to an old supposed Civil War site. I'll update you in the appropriate place with my finds.

My question is where is the best place to unload your silver? I have a small pile that I bought off a local guy here for $8 per $1 face that I'd like to move. I'm on eBay but not sure they're getting top dollar.

Also, would you buy very worn halfs and quarters (up to $60 worth) at $11 per $1 face if you were me. I have a deal brewing but that's best I could negotiate so far. Any chance of turning a profit there you think?

Thanks in advance and I appreciate all the great stories and posts.

Cheers,
Jason

Oh, hey my wife 'eyeballed' a 10k wedding ring in the parking lot yesterday and today I found an 18" silver chain (.925 Italy) this morning on the floor walking in to work. Is that consider finding treasure? We'll take what we can get.

gold and silver out in the open, can't beat that. You bet it's a treasure.
Can't help you with the other stuff.

Thanks, TMH. Reading through these posts really gives you a sense of the type of folks that happen to be interested in this hobby.

Good people. I like the positive energy.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Obviously you haven't read enough posts then. 99.9% of the time everyone is happy here, but when someone does something stupid, well.....just read some older posts and find out for yourself.

I'm sure I'll find out for myself sooner or later. No ideas on selling silver coins other than eBay? What do you guys all hang on to them?

I hang on to mine.

With silver going up, up I'd say it's a good call. Hate to see it drop back to $5/oz though. Someone contacted offline to buy. Thanks again.

I've sold my silver to a local coin shop in the past. Last week he was offering $46.00 a roll for 40% and $115.00 per roll for 90%( spot was $17.35) That is $11.50 per dollar face value for 90%

Thanks, Rick. I appreciate that info for comparison sake.

JB.

With silver over $19 oz., I wouldn't take less than $6.50 for a 90%er. I've only sold to a coin shop. You don't have to give ebay a cut, you don't have to mail anything and you don't have to deal with John Q. Public.

Have you looked into sending them to a foundry? I believe they'll pay decently, less the cost of melting them.
