It's 28mm and quite toasted.

Nice hunt, the copper looks to maybe be a Vermont Copper or King George III Copper. I'm pretty sure that it is Colonial though.
Here's a Vermont Copper

Thanks! That's very close.

My guess is that I could have been one of those many varieties of the Vermont Copper. I will try to find one that looks similar.

Here's a George III Copper.

Iron Patch, a member here, is very good with this kind of thing. Maybe he will chime in...

There we a lot of coppers with the KG3 head on it so I would not fixate on one particular. If it's a worn specimen the 28mm diameter was likely just larger when minted. I don't have any numbers in front of me but I believe Vermont coppers are slightly smaller. KG3 coins are about that diameter.

Try and get the weight, diameter, and a pic of the obv and you'll likely get an ID.

My guess right now is it's a Cartwheel. The last pic shows a big edge.

Congratulations on the old copper recoveries.

Awesome digs!!!

Def looks like a KG3

You guys on the east coast have the opportunities to find those old coppers in your back yards. Congrats for swinging your coil over a few nice keepers. :occasion14: I dream of getting into the 1700's club someday...

Good luck, it took me a year to find my first (A KG I), I'm sure that there are some in your area.

Looks like you had a great outing.

Awesome hunt! the varieties posted are both similar to yours, identifiable or not, still a great find!

I got about 8 grams for what it's worth . . .

I get so jealous when I see these toasted coppers. I don't even get that type of opportunity. So a big CONGRATS!
