Looking to upgrade from this basic Bounty Hunter Tracker IV to something more advanced. I have an oppurtunity to buy a Bounty Hunter Pilot 1 for $120 used or $125 new (of course I would buy the new one) but what do you guys think? My max is about $140, and I want to keep my tracker as a backup, then once my job picks up, in about two months I could get the AT Pro.

Personally I've never used a BH machine. But you seem to have had some good luck with yours. Personally I'd go for it...then you'd have two back-up machines or two extra machines to share.

save your money wait then upgrade when you can afford a bigger jump

Having cut my teeth in the late 70's in metal detecting from cheap to Garrett and whites detectors I've learned one thing here as of recent there's way too much hype and too many fan boys in every hobby there is(including metal detecting) about eight years ago I ended up with a cheap detector and lost interest real quick sold the thing in a yard sale since then I took up prospecting for flour gold here in Indiana then everything dried up.
Well I got interested in metal detecting again and bought a BH quick draw II to hear it or read it metal detectors have come a long way since I was a teen but this quick draw told a whole different story for all the so called advancements that have supposedly come about all I got was a bunch of inaccurate read outs in coin denomination and depth read outs.
If I were to go by what this detector was telling me I would either dig everything or nothing at all.I decided to read in between the lines and returning it after less than two weeks if I would have known this is the only capability this detector had I would have just saved the money I'm going to be out for the return shipping and the batteries I bought and just went around to local parks and church&school yards and proceeded to dig blind holes until I found a pull tab(I guess to be fair I did find a pre 1982 penny that read out to be a dime at 6 inches deep which was only actually 3 inches down)I don't mean to dog bounty hunter metal detectors but I'll say it anyhow I wouldn't give ya fifty cents for another one.
And that really can be said for all of them accuracy is lacking in most of them I could care less if they have a fancy 20 inch HD color LCD screen on them 200 push buttons and a monkey that jumps out of it to dig your finds for you and only cost $2000+ dollars if it can't accurately I.D. a clad quarter from a full sized Ford pickup truck at 2 inches in depth its junk!
Sorry for the rant here but I've got to agree with fmerg on this one I'd stick with what you have now and give another brand a try even if you have to pay a little more I've personally been looking at the Ace250 and likely should have got it instead and I'm still on the fence as to rather I care to even continue to be involved this whole situation with first Texas products LLC has pretty much left a bad taste in my mouth.
