Greetings,

The Bounty Hunter Platinum uses just 1 9V battery. The manual shows battery life 20 - 25 hours when using headphones.

I have yet gone over 8 - 9 hours before the barttery indicator starts flashing, and I do use headphones.

Can excessive pinpointing drain the battery quicker?

Is there a better choice other than the standard alkaline battery?

Thanking you in advance, Larry...

I would guess any sound coming out of the detector would shorten battery life. I wonder if one saves lots of battery money buying a handheld pinpointer? If all beeping shortens battery life, it might save on batteries, too, to reject as many numbers as one can without eliminating too many goodies.

If we could think of remembering to do it, we could turn volume down when pinpointing. Right now I just have a cheap Centech pinpointer. It is still on the original battery after 2 years! But it has a range of only about an inch, so I might spend the $$ for one that's more powerful.

If you wanted to make the investment, you could get rechargeable 9.6 volt batteries & charger. The batteries are about $11 each + charger cost. Saw some charger on eBay that recharges 9V only for under $10. I don't know if it would charge it to 9.6V? I got a digital battery checker on eBay for about $2, gives voltage of battery to nearest hundreth of a volt.

The best 9V alkaline battery deal I've found is when Walgreen's has them on sale 8 for $7.99 + tax. Maybe a good deal could show up on eBay but I would not trust an overseas seller for batteries. Best wishes, George (MN)
