Relic Hunting
Hit the 'no man's land' between two known cellar holes looking for a new hotspot and found a little iron concentration near a flowering plant that had no business growing there. Worked the site for the 45 minutes I had before the sun went down and got a really cool relic. Looks like some soldier heated a 69 cal bullet and squished it in his bible/journal whilst still hot (my theory anyway). The brass ring definitely has the right patina to be CW and is ovular and curved sort of like a shoebuckle but I have no clue what it is yet. Anyhoo thanks for looking and happy digging!

Wonder if that was a game piece of sorts?
Good to see you out digging.

thank you for the sentiment pepper. Game piece seems likely or just a soldier suffering from ennui, sentry duty must be exceedingly boring!

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Very cool finds! Congrats!!

Nice Saves! Where abouts in NOVA are you? I am in Herndon.

Nice CW Saves. Love those carved lead bullets. To know that some soldier took the time and whittled on these bullets and created these different pieces. Amazing. One of my favorite personal finds.

People got bored and carving was in style back then and they carved a lot of bullets. I agree nice saves.

Thank you very much, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was altered after cleaning it up. Today at a different location but same time period I found a complete instrument (minus the wood), dug like fifty reeds in same hole and a dozen little iron cranks...gonna have to do some research now to figure out what I dug.
