Not sure what they were used for but Boston Gear is still in business today. I deal with them dailey for many of their different products. Brass gears are used in lots of applications. Some of the ones you posted look to be made for a special application. Could be anything.

Any ideas what these were used for ? They seem two hefty for a clock . The 3 wide ones on the left weigh 2 pounds each .
A few are marked P G CO. HARVEY ILL
Others are marked BOSTON

all together they weigh over 16 pounds

I got them in a 'free pile' at a garage sale .

Have considered selling the? I am working a project that would put them to good use.

No ideal what they are but the scrap value alone is worth 30 or 40 bucks. HH

Gears from an old time crank bellows? I've seen one taken apart and they have similar gearing.

Probably made at the Perfection Gear Co. in Harvey Illinois. They made a lot of automotive gears for transmissions and timing gears among others. Not sure if these are automotive or otherwise. If automotive, they could be worth a nice piece of money as new original parts.

People do sell these on eBay for steampunk material. Don't know much about steampunk art, but they do like old brass gears, clock parts, and goggles.

Also could be spare parts from a small clock tower. Brass gears are commonly used in clocks & water flow meters, gas, etc. because it doesn't rust.

One of my favorites below :¬)
