Need to get a little more of the crud off to see the image clearly.
Lead backing?
Maybe a rosette of sorts.
Pretty cool recovery, congrats.

I was wondering if I should have not put water on it because then it?s harder to see it?s not a lead back but it is heavy it?s thick

I?m gonna let it dry and see what I can do. I don?t know whether I should?ve left it on for more clarity or clean it completely off. It?s killing me

Soft dry brushing after it dries up a tad might be a way also.
I usually cringe when offering up advice on the way to clean somebody else's find.

I?m wondering if a shout if I should go put more mud on it and let it dry and carefully rub flat with a toothpick.

And I do believe it might be filled with lead on the back. I don?t know if I should put renaissance wax on it? I don?t know

Nice find, I clean all my artifacts by rinsing them under warm water and lightly scrubbing them with an old tooth brush, sometimes even adding a dab of dish soap will help remove that caked on dirt. If there is corrosion on say a brass general service eagle button, I?ll let the artifact soak in hydrogen peroxide for around 10 minutes depending on how bad the corrosion is. Then again going back and brushing it with the tooth brush or using something wooden such as a chopstick, try knocking off the corrosion. The peroxide helps loosen up that hard dirt and corrosion, just wear some latex gloves or you?ll bleach your finger tips! Once you?ve got her clean, rub her down with some olive oil and you?re good to go!

OK I?ve brushed it with a soft toothbrush and below the shield there is a straight line which makes the shield lean toward the right there?s also stars on the top with leaves going all around the edge. And I don?t know if it?s just me but it looks like Lady liberty and her breast

Yes, Lady Liberty and a shield, with a date beneath the bar at the bottom...can't make it out, maybe 1850's.

Whatever it is, it's big, round, old and COOL!

I'll bet folks like Matt and Red Coat are working on this. I hope so, anyway.

Great thread!

I don't know what it is, but it's awesome.

It tripped me out because it was at a place where are nice house was and they knocked it down I did research and it was from 1895 and the house was in great condition. So I took my two orange cones my fluorescent safety vest and my hard hat and went at it LOL it was deep over 12 inches and I almost gave up on it because I figured it was some sort of pipe but then I realized none of the pipes I?ve hit where that deep and I kept digging and this is in 107? heat and the rest is history. No matter what it is I?m proud of it but not knowing and not being able to see an example online is pissing my family off lol I had to remind them that I was the head lion in charge but mama lion?s getting pissed
