Big collection -- what's it worth?

My grandmother passed away 3 years ago and when we were cleaning out her house we found this collection. Just in the last month or two I remembered that I had it and started doing a bit of research. Apparently silver certificates are pretty rare? Well, I have a lot. I posted this in the coins section of the forum because there was a coin collection along with it, but I think I'm more interested in the paper. I'll take some pics, but for now here's a list of the money.

1 - 1923 one dollar
8 - 1935 one dollars
6 - 1953 two dollars
2 - 1957 one dollars (one has a star in front of serial no.)
6 - 1963 two dollars
5 - 1976 two dollars

That's a total face value of $45. But I know it's worth a whole lot more than that. There's a couple in particular like a few of the '76, '63 and '53 bills that are in really good condition, and the 1923 dollar which is a lot bigger than the rest and the '57 star bill. The 1923, 1935's and 1957's are silver certificates. The 1923, '35 and '57 are all blue ink, 1953 and '63 are red and the 1976 is green.

I would like to find out more about the value, rarity etc. of these bills.
Pics are coming up soon.

You might consider inquiring at your local library (to rent) or buying a copy of The Official Red Book, A Guide Book of US Paper Money.
ISBN-13-978-079482362-7. The second edition was in 2008; there may be one more current.

Re: Big collection -- what's it worth?

Doesn't the Red Book have coins also? I actually saw a place within walking distance from my house that sells the Red Book and a bunch of other coin collection books. I might have to stop by soon.

Here's three more pics. First two are front and back of the star note, and then jsut for fun a group shot of all the bills together.

Re: Big collection -- what's it worth?

Your Speelman/White issue of 1923 retail-listed two years ago at $40 VG-8; $45 VG-12 and $60 VG-20.
Your grandmother had a good collector's eye.

Re: Big collection -- what's it worth?

What about the 1953 $2? It looks like it's uncirculated, and then there's two more 1953s and three 1963 $2 bills that look almost uncirculated, with only a few slight folds. And is the star note worth anything? Are there any special series, serial numbers, signatures to look for?

Suggestion: See my first reply. Or, you may find (or can order) this book through your local library.
