Nice coin! On the lower left, it seems to say Maravil... Can you provide a photo of the other side too?

The reverse is pretty well gone but I'll try. Can see some scrolling on it but can't make out the v or x in the middle

Great find and "CONGRATS"! Thanks for sharing the picture with all of us.

Thats a nice big 'ol copper.

Man, that's one big copper! Is it a coin, medallion maybe? Let us know what you find out. Congrats!

I didn't have much time to try to look it up for you to help solve it but I think in the picture your holding it upside down. The crown would be on top. Looks familiar to some old foreign coppers I seen before but I'm not sure. Great find and can't wait to see a id! [emoji2][emoji106]

I'm thinking its a Portugal 10 Reis 1777-1799. Nice find.

That is very cool . For me I no longer use olive oil ...not a fan of the stuff.

Nice old coin.
I use the olive oil too but I've also started using straight mineral oil as well. It's supposed to be PH neutral and basically inert as far as doing any damage to the metal. I can't say it's any better or worse because I've gotten pretty much identical results with both.

I have one old Liberty Cap LC that's been in mineral oil for almost a year. The date reads "179....." and I still can't get that last number. But, after a few centuries in the ground we're lucky we can read anything; especially in my area. This dirt is really tough on copper for whatever reason.

That's a nice old coin any way you slice it and regardless of what you decide to clean it up with. Congrats.

So it turns out to be a 20 reis minted in the Azores. Which make sense w the whaling trade. 1795. The funny thing is the other thing I found tonight

My buddy also found a 1650's French laird and a 1749 kg farthing
