After work today I was able to get a few hours in at one of my CW wooded spots before it rained.
Nothing exciting, but hauling this giant tree hooker picker upper thingy was quite a challenge. Of course I had to find it WAY out in the woods rather than close to my truck. :BangHead: I dug it right next to a large tree. I think the tree won. Looks old, but who knows? :dontknow:

I found a "Treble Colour" flat button, and a few what's its too. No CW lead unfortunately.

One piece I am intrigued by it the small flat copper piece. I thought it was just junk until I got home and flattened it back out. There are some letters, numbers, and a design on it. The piece looks very old but I have no idea what it is. :icon_scratch:
Any help on unlocking this mystery would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking at this ho-hum post. :tongue3:

Thanks Folks,
I figure the large tongs may come in handy in case Andy or Bubba get on their knees to dig a hole and can't get back up. :tongue3: :laughing9:

As far as the mystery copper piece with numbers & letters, the world may never know. :dontknow:

Thanks for your help,
Doug

I think the numbers on your "Manufacture.."mystery piece are: 209?

That one is bugging me.

Rooster,
You may be right. I was looking at it last night and it is either "208" or "209". Whatever that was. :dontknow:
By the way, I love your recent True Grit movie. My son and I went to go see it. After that I had to rent the original again. I think I went to see that with my Dad. He was a big John Wayne fan.

Cool relics!

Re: I found a BIG hooker in the woods + more!

I believe they are logging tongs or as we call them---DOGS---my uncle still uses them for logs for his saw mill. They could be used for ice but most likely these are for logging

Re: I found a BIG hooker in the woods + more!

Yep, it's a CW rifle butt plate. I'm running it through electrolysis now. I'm hoping I can find some markings on it. -MM-

Nice finds, Doug. You should become a member of the "Iron Brigade" :laughing7: Did you take the hooker home :laughing9: Got to have a sense of humor

Yes, I took her home. She was a bit rusty but once I got her loosened up, she opened up to me. :tongue3: :laughing9:
I agree, if you don't have a sense of humor in life you'll age early. :icon_thumleft:
Hope you are doing well,
Doug

Re: I found a BIG hooker in the woods + Springfield CW butt plate

Yep, it's a Springfield butt plate. :icon_thumleft: I got it cleaned up a bit. Not the prettiest piece, but still a great piece of history.
Thanks for looking,
MM

I believe the copper piece is a 2 oz. whiskey measure, jigger or shot glass. I have seen the hooks used for logs, ice and for hanging animals at the slaughterhouse.

:laughing7:Sure not an Ox shoe!!! ;D

Joe,
I can't believe it either. I was thinking CW shoe horn. :tongue3: :laughing9:
Now I have a Springfield butt plate to match my Springfield lock plate.
Going back out there tomorrow to scour the woods.
Have a great weekend,
