Posting this for a friend...

This was found in February in a heavily wooded area in southern VA. Found in an area with heavy CW action and troop movement, and amongst many other CW related artifacts.

Not saying this is period, however, based on the level of rust and construction, my opinion is that it could. My initial impression was that was a hitch pin of some sort, perhaps from a cannon carriage. However, I have not found anything like this in diagrams of cannon carriages. Measurements are approx. 6 inches (top of "T"), by 10 inches (vertical part of "T"). These measurements are approx. based on what I remember when I saw it in person.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah I know this isn't glamorous but does anyone even have a guess?

I would say a tractor draw bar hitch pin from the days before 3 point hitch. Tony
