BigTim1973's finds for De. 8, 2008

Well bigTim1973 and I finally got to go out on a hunt together yesterday! Man I had a fun! Even if I only found 35 cents in clad and what Tim assured me was not part of an Alien Space craft..(party pooper!) LOL
Tim's was kind enough to share an old home site he believes is 100+ years old with me yesterday and let me use his Fisher 1265x which I plan to buy for the wifey and use as a backup/guest machine until my new XLT gets here! ;D Tim was swinging his new MineLab Xterra 50 which is an impressive machine! And his finds will show it. He found the half mark 10 feet from where I sat taking a cig break. Some guys have all the luck...LOL
No seriously Tim really knows his stuff and is GREAT company in the field. Man it was so much fun being out there with a fellow TNetter and someone that shares the same interests as I do. We may have not walked away with a pocket full of 20 Dollar Gold Pieces but it was a fun afternoon and time well spent with a new friend. I sure hope we get to get out again when my new machines arrives!
Now for the pics...The coin on the left Tim had already found before I got there and the German one like I said he found not 10 feet from my break area.. Does anyone know if it's silver? It sure seems to be! Enjoy!

Mike

Oh BTW the coin on the left is a 1885 "V" nickel. Kinda hard to see. I am sure Tim will have some better pics when he gets a chance..

The German 1/2 mark is silver and was probably brought home by a WW1 soldier. The V nickel doesn't appear to be an 1885(the rarest of the V's), it looks to be an 189? Nice hunt

Re: BigTim1973's finds for De. 8, 2008

Oppsie your right it's 1895 not 1885, my bad..

Yes the 1/2 mark is made of 90% silver and should weigh 2.777 grams. Nice finds!

Re: BigTim1973's finds for De. 8, 2008

This is what I have found at this site so far
1942 quarter
seated liberty quarter (very worn no date)
2 wheat cents
palmolive token
some clad and what is posted here (half mark and v nickle)
I have searched and searched and my buddy Mike_n_TN, which posted this for me and the post with the Chinese coin in it, has went over it pretty good too and have found some clad also. Sometimes when I search an area a few times in a row I tend to start getting what I would say is a dry spell. I am going to give it a break and search another site or two before I go and hit this place again. I kind of feel like you do Jorge, there has got to be more there!! I hope we are both right!!
