Ok guys I have been trying to figure this out for a while now and I'm stumped!!! At least I think I'm stumped. I've noticed on eBay throughout a variety of items there is often a few bin listings with the bin price WAY above everyone else's listings on the same product (new items). Is this some kind of money laundering scheme? Or are they just preying on idiots to occasionally buy at their insanely inflated prices?

Well, I said I would never list anything! I swore I would never do it again! I'm done with Ebay..........Until today! :laughing7: I'm listing older items, My BIN is real high on a few things. I had a theory for it, in my own twisted logic. Maybe they have some kind of twisted logic of their own on new items.:laughing7: Some of my BIN are not actually for sale. It's part of my collection, But for that price? I'll sell it. So, I'm kind of experimenting. If it doesn't sell? no big deal.

Those listings that are new items with a high BIN, might have a following that doesn't check around.

Ohhh and Diesel, if you want to have a good laugh or critique my listings I'll PM you my Id.I can't even get the shipping boxes checked right! They did make it easier than it use to be to list though. A lot faster now!! :laughing7:

On occasion I do this. If my item is relatively rare and doesn't turn up much I will put a high BIN. Sometimes folks will pay the premium. Depends on how bad they want it. Usually they make an offer though.

Dang - for the life of me I couldn't figure out what a "BIN" listing was! Can't explain it - just couldn't relate BIN to Buy It Now! Guess it was another one of my "senior moments!" :)

The Visa cards are a good example. Have seen some go $30 or more over the value

Ya, I don't get some of that stuff! I know for a fact drug money is transferred on some of those pre pay cards, but I don't get why they would even over pay for them, if that was the case. :dontknow:

Nitric, you know for a fact?? So eBay is just a sideline for you then? How is the drug business? [emoji13]

And others wondering about premiums on gift cards, here it is: there's a premium on some gift cards! [emoji47]. If I have learned anything during my 15 years on eBay it is that every thing, and I mean everything has a premium at one time or another. I have sold empty boxes, old (new) tampons, used disposable razors. The list goes on. Assume that most people are crazy, not that there is always something nefarious going on.

It's the old 'criminal' or 'insane' dichotomy and you're leaning towards the 'insane' explanation! Lots of examples to choose from, anyone remember pet rocks?

I wouldn't be broke if that was the case! :laughing7: Lets just say, in a distant place.... I know a guy, and he told me what his sister was doing, and how. :happysmiley: It's really no secret, or inside info...

A lot of the time the gift cards are being purchased with ebay bucks. You can only spend those on ebay so if you've got a 100 in ebay bucks (free) you're often willing to convert them to a Starbucks or Amazon card at a premium.

I've seen some new items say for example has a retail value of $160.00 and it's an easily obtainable item, and they have a bin price of $375.00!!! At these extremely inflated prices it sure makes me wonder what the heck is going on...

These are some good points. As a side note though, I'm glad you specified the old tampons were still new! Lol

I start with high BIN prices. Not crazy like you said, but there is a reason. Say you are willing to take $300 for a ring. Start it at $600, and a few weeks later, put it on sale at 50% off. People think they are getting a great deal, and you're getting what you wanted. Cool trick another eBay seller taught me.

It's all good vpnavy, we all have those senior moments from time to time! My sister who just turned 65, once sent "LOL" to a friend in response to a message about a loss of a family member and then wondered why the friend did not message her for a very long time. Once I told my sister that "LOL" stands for "Laughing Out Loud" instead of "Lots Of Luck" as she thought, she was besides herself and quickly sent out a flurry of email and Facebook messages apologizing for her error. As you probably have noticed, most of my postings here and elsewhere are very long as I don't know all of the abbreviations and/or acronyms for sayings and use long hand to convey my message.

Why would anyone in their right mind spend eBay Bucks for a Starbucks card?:dontknow::icon_scratch: IMHO, they have the worst coffees on this planet and most of their' coffees have Chicory in them and I hate Chicory with a passion! I have probably drank many thousands of brands and blends/brews of coffee in my life and have pretty much settled on Folger's Columbian Coffee as what I can live with and the price it sells for. I have drank many cheap and many expensive coffees and found that I don't need any of those $10, $20, $30 or more per pound coffee blends to satisfy my needs and taste buds. Did I mention that I hate Chicory and especially coffees with Chicory in them??!!:laughing7: Sorry, I am just venting on Starbucks!
