Well I found something today, you can't trust your eyes !. Got up about 9am and the sky was wall to wall black clouds. These clouds were still there at mid day, it seemed that at any minute the sky would open. At least I thought I would manage a few hours after the downpour. At 4pm the clouds were even blacker and heavier. This situation stayed the same until night fall and not one drop of rain as fallen all day. As we say in England I am feeling as sick as a parrot. I am setting the alarm to get up early in the morning, I bet it's pi--ing it down.Spent the last hour looking at old finds on the lap top. Had this Lucius Verus denarius AD 161-169 off the site I wanted to go today, let's see what tomorrow brings.

HH _ Robert

WOW ~ that's a great Ancient coin you found! I'd love to take a trip over there some time to do some detecting!

LOL @ "I am feeling as sick as a parrot" ~ I'd love to know where that saying came from ~ there's got to be a funny story behind that!

Now that is a piece of history. Very nice find.

I went out to an old building today and every few feet the detector went off. There was so much scrap metal it drove me nuts. I finally decided to come home after I found a small plain juice glass. That was todays find.

Try a little further away from the building where it's a bit less junky .Detect slowly and just let your mind drift (don't try too hard), bet you find something.

I thought of that and I was far away from the building by the edge of a small cliff that fell in to a river. There was still a lot of junk. It looks as if it the land has been scraped and it is just trash. I then went behind my house where the HS kids hung out for a few years. That is basically a trash pit with beer cans and tabs etc. The only place I ever found anything of value was the town park. To bad it is new park so not much but clad and pull tabs there.

Got to admit that you guys in the states have got it tough finds wise. I do admire though how you keep going and enjoying our fantastic pastime. In England we are spoilt with what's in the ground and tend to take it for granted.Modern to us is anything post medieval, even Roman bronze coins if not in spot on condition end up in the scrap. I bet though the feeling you get when you do find something good probably surpasses the thrill I get.

I am new to this and just getting in to it so its fun at the moment. I do envy the coins and relics that you Europeans can find. That kind of history fascinates me. You get to find treasures from centuries ago. That is a very cool thing.

Being in the western U.S. the finds that I am looking for only start in the late 1800's. That is when most of this area was settled. I know that there were Spanish people here before that but I have no idea where to look for that treasure.

rob, you punched the button with that reply. We have to be happy with finding war relics that date to 1700, you guys have had wars for eons, we get to find coins that your country tossed to us. We aren't as lucky as you at all. Your finds amaze many of us that like the history of our entire world. keep on diggin and posting cause there will always be appreciation.

BTW< nice denarius, I think I found one the other day at an old 7-11 that's now a quickie inn. :icon_jokercolor:
