Black Powder .30 Cal. Mini Pistol, .58 Bullet

Didn't make any stellar coin finds today but the woods were certainly beautiful in fall foliage. I believe I found a mini pistol that may be percussion cap. But it certainly seems primitive and didn't weather well. The bullet seems fairly old as well.

Back at it tomorrow in a place which has given me many coins, early 1700's to mid-1800's.

It's a percussion cap boot pistol, the most basic bare bones cheapest pistol you could get back in the 19th century. You should check to see if it's still loaded! If it's not, it may mean the last shot was fired in the heat of battle.

Cool little pistol! Not used in any duels, this pistol is meant to fire at arm length or less at an attacker. It might even miss a man size target at 15 feet. Basic self defence, maybe better than a knife. A knife can be used for a while, the pistol once discharged is useless. Great find!!
