black powder crates.

I was wondering if anyone has seen what type of boxes or caring crates the old ships used to carry black powder around on the ships.

Black powder storage on old British ships Apr 24, '10 2:28 PM

It,s always been my understanding that black gunpowder on ships was stored in wooden barrels,as has been stated. Loose powder was required for the guns. Blasting black powder was most often formed into sticks and shipped and stored in wood crates,I believe. There was a brand called Giant powder, but I,m not certain it was black powder.

I did google it and found it was stored in barrels under the water line, they had young men or boys put the powder in small bags for each cannon. i am wondering if they used creates with the bags in them to take to the guns. when in battle time and efficiency would be key.
