Has anyone had any experience using a detector to locate black sand? Wondering if turning the iron disc on its lowest setting (01), and using the iron audio, would it be possible to locate black sand in placer deposits of ancient streams/creeks? If the gold may be too deep under overburden and sporadic for the detector, I'm thinking maybe the iron in the sand may be more of a solid target (?) Or a good place to start for material to test pan...compared some kind of core sampling? I dunno, thinking aloud..has anyone used this method successfully? HH

the gmt has a follow the black sand feature...

GMT? Have you used it? Any idea how it works?

yes i have used it. it is designed to track the amount of ferrous mineralization in the ground your detecting in relation to the other minerals...thats the simplest way to put it...someone else who really knows will hopefully chime in. it shows a number on the vdi while in use.go to the whites website and look up the owners manual it explains it there.
