snow snow go away...go back up to cleveland where you belong! Going stir crazy in COWlumbus with the recent 20 INCHES of white CRAP left by weekend blizzard. Can't swing, nowhere to dig...so in desperation I jump in 4X4 suburban snow bank killing truck and go on a half dollar hunt. I've thought about doing a serious coin roll hunt off and on over the years, but never seemed to get around to it.
So I set out with $180 borrowed from bills I'll think about paying later and went from bank from to bank to bank, buying up rolls of halves at one, unloading them at the next and encountering a variety of bewildered and/or cranky tellers along the way. In the end I managed to locate 962 half dollar coins...many of the rolls had been searched so many times the flaps were dog eared, some so badly that only scotch tape to held them together.
"No, I don't want those ugly golden dollars, just halves" became the battle cry of the day...in response to the same dumb question almost everywhere I went.
But not all the rolls were barren :-) Final total was 11 keepers...2 Franklins 54-s and 53-d, 3 '64 Kennedy's and 6 40% halves. 11 silver halves in one day... a new record for me for sure.
Now I know this story probably belongs in the "roll hunting" board...but I'm not really a roll hunter, just a hole diggin' dude with nuthin better to do who had to resort to dabbling on the dark side. Maybe I'll go agrrivate the cranky bank people again someday, considering the reults...but only as a last resort when there's no actual ground to go dig.
