I have recently joined a group of detectorists, who are going to attempt to find relics in Ray County- for The Ray County Museum.
Today was the first day of our first project- searching for evidence of the ambush of Bloody Bill Anderson and his approx. 150 men, October 26, 1864. Although there were 300 Union soldiers who ambushed 150 guerillas that day, 156 years ago, we didn't find ANY bullets where we searched today (maybe time has obscured the actual site of the skirmish?).
However, I DID find a few items of interest: one brass (or copper?) hand-hammered rivet, one adjustable wrench- minus the wooden handle, a square-headed bolt, an extra-long nail, a thin, tapered piece of steel and some sort of tool made by Indians (spear head?).
Any Info for any of these items would be appreciated, as I am always about the history of items I find!
Happy hunting folks and God bless!
