Bone tool ??

Found this bone fragment in my sifter at kitchen midden site where other finds have been stp, stone and shell tools and lots of old bone fragments, many with cut and percussion breakage marks. A few bone pieces have shown some polish as if they were pins but not really sure of some like this one. This doesn't look normal to me, looks like it was polished up at the one end like it was part of a handle? What.do you all think ? Thanks for looking,vn

So are those hollowed out internally like mine or does that happen over time? I am guessing that the Natives broke the tooth open to get what might be inside....I know they broke the animal bones open and got the marrow out, dont know about a tooth though

I’d guess just natural processes and decay over time I don’t think there would be enough in a tooth to warrant the effort of cracking one open

Thanks for your thoughts on this one TC ....so would the polished up end be natural or man alterred? i have found some polished bone tool fragments but most all are in bits and pieces....

Looks like a piece of a large tooth to me. Most likely a Bear. There's a few big ones in these pics.

I think the lighter area may have just weathered differently.
