Borrowing a friends "old" Fisher, any suggestions?

I hope to have it this weekend, but I've never used a Fisher. He said though that it's not as heavy anymore, he re-wired it taking out the heavy "D" battery pack and installed a battery pack for 8 AA's.

I guess what I need to know is the sounds or beeps. What do the coins sound like versus the junk?

Thanks!
Chris

D batteries??? It must really be a dinosaur and even I can't remember ever using D batteries. You don't say what model the Fisher is, but I assume it will only have one tone or pitch of the beep. Coins and rings will not have a different signal from trash. With the proper disc setting it will null on most trash while signaling on a higher conductive target.

Good Luck.

Yeah, he doesn't recall what model it is and I'll have to play with it. Scan some junk, scan some good stuff and listen. Can't be any worse than learning on the Bounty Hunter that I started with. Maybe they were "C" batteries instead?

Okay, here it is, a 552D... how do I use it? I turned it on, batteries work. But I can't get it to beep with any targets. It only beeps when I turn it on.

Sounds like something is amiss. I think you'd be better off with a Wal-mart Bounty Hunter.
