I posted this in another section, but didn't get much of a response, so I though I'd try here....I found a bottle dump(I think) in my yard. I managed to dig up 2 bottles (pics below) and saw a least 2 more that were buried below these. I was just going to get a shovel and start digging but a figured I'd try to get some advice before doing any damage to what else might be there. Can anyone give me some tips on safely (for the bottles and myself) excavating this area? also, based on the two I dug, any idea to the possible age of the site? thanks.....

Thanks for the quick reply SWR...a have another question, these 2 bottles were only about 4 inches deep, did people use dumps over a long period of time?..what I'm asking is if it is a dump, could I expect the bottles to get older the deeper I go? the place dates back about 125 years..as you can probably surmise..I know nothing about bottle dumps...thanks again..

I have dug bottles since 1970. The 2 in picture are from 20s to 30s. If it is a deep dump the will get older. If you dig any bitters or cures they are before 1910. good money in bottle n dhg
