Bottle Hunting today in Mother Lode CA

I just discovered digging for old bottles and am on my first expedition today along hwy 49. Need a pro to show me some tips, but will wing it and learn if no ones around to read this.
It's Wed 11/29/06 10am. Headin out from Sacramento to ghost towns in Mother Lode in an hour. Anyone just happen to be on their way to do same thing and wanna teach a rookie?
Just checking. Will have fun on own too.

take a long steel rod to probe with. you can feel the glass underground that way. and be careful what you handle, there was some pretty nasty stuff in some old bottles thats been taken off the market. good luck
