Finally found a complete cork top bottle. It was in a small stream near an 1800's farm home. Any ideas on what was in this and date? I walk my dog at the old 1800's farm now a major home development adjacent to my neighborhood. They have graded the entire area and I occasionally see pottery and old glass pieces. Since it is a huge expanse of mostly dirt and rocks I am always looking for an arrow point or an old coin on the surface after a rain. This rock stood out. Nothing else like it for acres. It's very sharp. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505442807.904488.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505442816.785261.webpImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1505442827.008612.webp
Any input is appreciated. (Yes, this is my one gimme for a "rock" post, sorry.)

My guess on the bottle is that it was a prescription medicine bottle. Would have had a paper label, and could have held almost anything.

Maybe the rock is obsidian, or natural glass.

I think the rock is the bottom of a champagne bottle.

Not that there aren't glasslike rocks in the world... but I think your rock is just a piece of glass.

From the bottom, how far up the side does the seam go?

The bottle is in 1880/ early 90s applied lip it's called. The rock looking one is the base of a thick turn mold wine bottle possibly a whisky. The indent if more intact would of shown the pontil mark on the bottle, this one is older.

The rock appears to be an Indian artifact, probably just a broken piece that came off a larger piece of stone that a Native American was working.

I have some black obsidian that looks very much like yours, so that would be my guess unless it isn't naturally occurring in your neck of the woods.

I agree, probably a piece of 1700's black glass. Cool finds on the cork top and rock/glass thing.
